Full Time, 40 hour Work Week, Regular Non-Exempt position, Day Shift

Denver Water’s Operations and Maintenance Division is currently seeking a qualified candidate to assist us as a Water Quality Lab Supervisor.  The Water Quality Lab Supervisor is responsible for staff performing a broad range of physical, chemical, and bacteriological tests and analyses on a variety of environmental samples as necessary for process control, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance. Administer the laboratory quality assurance program and ensure work quality and adherence to established policies and procedures. Perform the more technical and complex tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • This position has formal supervisory responsibilities over other employees.

  • Oversee laboratory testing; schedules, assigns, and perform laboratory performance evaluation study tests for environmental laboratory certification renewal program.

  • Establish schedules and methods for providing laboratory services. Identify resource needs and review needs with appropriate management staff; allocates resources accordingly.

  • Participate in the development of goals and objectives as well as laboratory policies and procedures. Make recommendations for changes and improvements to existing laboratory standards, policies, and procedures. Participate in the implementation of approved policies and procedures.

  • Consult with internal customers (Treatment, Engineering, Planning, etc.) to meet analytical and monitoring objectives.

  • Participate in the preparation and administration of the assigned program budget. Submit budget recommendations and oversee inventory and purchasing needs of laboratory staff. Monitor expenditures.

  • Maintain records concerning operations and programs. Prepare reports for internal and external stakeholders.

  • Perform the more technical and complex tasks of the work unit and complex chemical, bacteriological and physical analyses.

  • Prepare, review, and update laboratory standard operating procedures. Review and update new compliance monitoring requirements.

  • Assist in response and resolution of citizen and staff inquiries, concerns, and complaints in a timely and effective manner.

  • Perform related duties as required.

Minimum Qualification - Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Chemistry, Microbiology, Natural Resources, or a related field. Minimum 5 years of related work experience and 2 years supervisory experience preferred.

Experience with laboratory accreditation/certification programs preferred. Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.

Licenses, Registration and Certifications:

  • Distribution Level 2 license/Water Treatment C preferred.

  • Must possess a Colorado Class R driver license.

  • Required HIPAA Training.
