Denver Water’s Engineering Division is currently seeking a qualified candidate to assist us as an Mechanical Engineer Associate working under general supervision, performing a variety of routine professional level engineering work involving both office and field activities The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, have a strong desire and a passion to assist Denver Water to become the “best water utility in the nation”.
This position will analyze engineering problems, perform calculations, and develop drawings and specifications necessary to complete final design documents for construction projects, and provide technical services during construction.. The construction projects cover a wide variety of work located throughout the state and may include: pumping stations, hydroelectric facilities, dam outlet works, valve vaults, large diameter piping systems, HVAC systems, and plumbing systems. Duties also include conducting field observations and inspections and developing solutions for operational problems within the water system infrastructure. This employee needs to be able to communicate effectively with outside agencies, the public, utility companies, other engineering firms and other DW employees. Lastly, employee must comply with the Department’s safety program through job performance and attendance at scheduled safety meetings.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
May coordinate project work.Exercises technical direction of work assigned.
Analyzes engineering problems and designs solutions Performs calculations and sketches necessary to complete finished designs and construction specifications on less complex projects.
Originates and coordinates contracts with consultants and contractors for design or construction of engineering plans for less complex projects.
Conducts field observations and inspections, takes measurements and uses laboratory and other analyses in developing solutions to operational problems.
Checks plans and drawings; performs quantity take-offs/estimates, and assembles and checks data.
Investigates materials and products through literature research.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications, Education, and Experience
Knowledge of engineering principles and practices.
Perform calculations and sketches to complete routine designs, construction specifications and computer analyses.
Check plans, shop drawings and engineering estimates.
Originate basic design solutions to a variety of problems and situations.
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Maintain effective working relationships with employees, the public and other private and public sector organizations.
Graduation from a four-year accredited college or university with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Licenses, Certificate or Credential:
Certification of enrollment as an Engineer-in-Training in the State of Colorado.
Required possession of a standard driver’s license (ability to obtain within 1 month of hire).
Required HIPAA Training.
