Water Treatment Plant Supervisor – ESP-05

We need an individual who under direction, supervises the daily operations and maintenance work at Denver Water’s Recycling Plant.
The qualified selected candidate will perform a variety of duties essential to the plant, including planning and coordinating work, supervision, scheduling and training. Develop and set goals for both plant operations, maintenance and staff development to align to Denver Water’s strategic plan.
Hiring Salary Range: $5,889.87 (minimum) to $7,362.34 (midpoint)/monthly
Full Time, Exempt position
40 hours per week, M-F, Day Shift, Regular position

Denver Water’s Operations and Maintenance Division is currently seeking a qualified candidate to assist us as a Water Treatment Plant Supervisor at our Recycle Treatment Plant working under general supervision, assists the Water Treatment Plant Manager in supervising the work of personnel engaged in the operation and maintenance of water treatment plants and appurtenant structures. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, have a strong desire and a passion to assist Denver Water to become the “best water utility in the nation.”
Essential Duties and Responsibilities of a Water Treatment Plant Supervisor:
Plan, schedule, and supervise the activities of assigned personnel engaged in the operation and maintenance of a water treatment plant.Supervises and evaluates employees.
Develop job plans and coordinate activities with outside trade shops.Perform quality control review of lab, chemical delivery data and use information to make operational decisions.Procures materials and equipment and manages inventory of process chemicals.
Develop standard operating procedures, train, and assist personnel in standard job methods and practices in the proper use of equipment.Interpret and explains personnel policies and procedures.
Assists in the preparation of the annual water treatment budget.
Ensure compliance with Denver Water safety and security procedures.Maintain records for water quality, Safety programs, and risk management.
Participate in design, development, and review for capital improvement projects.Coordinate plant operations with contractors and engineers during construction projects.Evaluate risk to plant operations or employee safety during construction activities.
Ensure compliance with federal and state drinking water or Regulation 84, public health, discharge and safety regulations.Prepare and maintain various records related to water quality, quantity treated flows, chemical usages, and maintenance of equipment.Prepare reports for regulatory agencies.
Ensure compliance with the risk management plan.Update the emergency response plan, and assumes the appropriate level of command during an emergency response.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge of the standards, practices, methods, materials, tools, equipment and measuring instruments used in the operation and maintenance of water treatment plants. The hazard and safety precautions associated with plant activities. All processes involved in treatment plant operations. Principles of supervision, training and performance evaluation. Pertinent federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations, including those regarding applicable health and safety regulations. Principles of physical asset management and their application towards the assurance of reliability and asset uptime. Continuous reliability improvement initiatives for identification and mitigation of failure modes.
Skill in interpersonal relations, organization and time management skills. The use of spreadsheets, word processing, presentation software and computerized maintenance management systems. Leadership and motivations skills.
Ability to train subordinates in all phases of plant maintenance, and operations and safe working practices. Prepare annual operating, maintenance and capital improvement budgets. Estimate and requisition parts, materials, supplies, tools and equipment. Keep records and write reports. Organize, coordinate, and supervise the work of others. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public. Ensure adherence to safe work practices and procedures.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Associates Degree from an accredited college or university in a related field.
Minimum 5 years of related work experience.
A minimum of 2 years supervisory experience preferred.
Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
Licenses, Registration, and Certification:
Water Treatment Operator ‘A’ Certification preferred.Operations position must be able to acquire the Water Treatment Operator ‘A’ within four years.Maintenance position must be able to acquire the Water Treatment Operator ‘B’ within three years.
Certified Maintenance Reliability Profession (CMRP) preferred.Maintenance position must be able to acquire the CMRP within two years.
Colorado Class ‘R’ license is required.
May require HIPAA Training.
