Xcel Energy work in Waterton Canyon continues

November 10, 2009 - Xcel Energy continues its work to install a replacement underground power line in Waterton Canyon. The power line is necessary to continue operating Strontia Springs Dam. The work occurs Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with no work on weekends. Crews will not be working Nov. 26 and 27.

The installation began approximately 4.5 miles from the Waterton Canyon trailhead and continues one mile up the canyon. The project is expected to last until the end of November, depending on soil and weather conditions.

The canyon will remain open, but Waterton Canyon recreationalists should expect detours and possible temporary delays. This project will require the use of large and noisy machinery. Canyon recreationalists should exercise caution through the area.
