Board Approves Creation of New "Single-Family Residential
Common Area Irrigation"
Rate Classification, Effective May 1, 2007:

The Denver Board of Water Commissioner approved a new rate classification for irrigation accounts serving common area landscaping in single-family residential communities.  Irrigation accounts of this type are currently billed under the standard single-family rate structure that features four consumption blocks, each with increasingly higher rates.

Traditionally, single family residential communities with common area landscaping have consumed large amounts of water through a small number of irrigation taps.  As a result, virtually all of their water consumption takes place in the fourth consumption block and is billed at the highest possible rate.  The new rate classification features a simple winter/summer seasonal rate structure that will mitigate much of the negative financial impacts associated with the highest priced consumption block for these customers.

The new "Single-Family Residential Common Area Irrigation" rate will be effective for bills date on or after May 1, 2007.  This new rate does not apply to irrigation accounts serving individual single family residences or irrigation accounts currently assigned to the "all other" rate classification.

As a result of creating this new rate classification, rates for standard single-family residential customers outside the City and County of Denver will be reduced by approximately two to eight cents per 1000 gallons.  These reductions will also become effective on May 1, 2007.
