Completed in 1932 after two years of construction, Eleven Mile Canyon Dam sits about 11 miles south of Lake George, Colorado. The six-mile long reservoir is the second-largest in the Denver Water system and one of the largest bodies of water east of the Continental Divide, with a surface area of 3,405 acres and 23.9 miles of shoreline.

Denver Water has 20 dams, some of which were built more than century ago. Every year, Denver Water conducts internal dam evaluations, while also taking part in state and federal inspections. In May 2016, Eleven Mile passed its annual safety inspection.
