Summer’s almost over, but the fun has just begun

Denver Water’s Youth Education Program focuses on creating better water citizens.

Summer is almost over. The days are getting shorter and school has finally started (we hear there’s mixed feelings about this among parents).

This also means that Denver Water’s Youth Education Program is starting to heat up. The program’s goal is to help create the next generation of water-wise Coloradans.

But let’s backup a bit.

Did you know Denver Water has a youth education program? Yes, we do!

After all, kids are people too. Just because they don’t program irrigation systems or pay bills doesn’t mean they aren’t water users.

So, as we focus on ways to ensure a secure water future, it’s only natural we’d want to involve tomorrow’s decision makers now as they are forming the behaviors they’ll use for a lifetime.

Denver Water’s Youth Education program has offerings and educational materials across the K-12 grade spectrum.

Each year Denver Water’s youth educators give classroom presentations for thousands of students, as well as treatment plant tours.

“By far, the best part of being a part of Denver Water’s Youth Education Program is the interaction I have with students and educators,” said Matt Bond, Denver Water Youth Education manager.

“It’s a great honor and privilege to partner with teachers and be invited into their workspace to work with their students. We don’t take that for granted for a second.”

Since the youth education program started in 2007, it has worked directly with nearly 86,000 students and adults (more than 11,000 last year alone) in public and private schools across the Denver Water’s service and collection areas.
